Cider Fest 2008!

Reese, Riley and yes, even Ashton, participated in the Norton Ciderfest Parade this morning along with a few dozen of our friends from the Norton Panther Pals playgroup that meets every Tuesday. It was very last minute as we weren’t sure our group would be able to be in the parade, but I think we pulled it together incredibly well!!! This year’s theme was to commemorate the festival itself, so we were a wagon of apples! The kids made their paper bags (donated by ACME) by stamping apples cut in half during one playgroup last week (those photos to be posted on the kid’s site at a later date, oh so stinking cute too).  All the kids that came today were so good with waiting almost 1 ½ hours to get moving as we had to line up early, #51 of over 70 participants, sitting still and throwing candy!

I apologize if I missed saying hi to anyone while we walked the mile or so behind the trailer while pulling Ashton in the wagon…. I was making sure that kids were sitting down and of course Ashton was doing ok… which he could have cared less!!! He slept through the ENTIRE thing, even with the bands playing and what I think all of Norton and Barberton in attendance! But I did catch a few of you and say howdy!!!

6 Week Postpartum Check-Up

(5 weeks 1 day)

I had my 6 week check up today!!

I was nursing when called back, but everyone is so relaxed they didn't mind waiting a few extra minutes, and then of course, were thrilled to hold Ashton while i got weighed.

Nikki and I chatted a bit while she took my vitals about our kids, they go to the same preschool, and how Ashton was doing. They were shocked to see how big he was at less than 6 weeks old! What can I say, we grow big kids....

Then we chatted about everything and anything, even my birth experience, looking back and trying to think of things to change or my concerns. Of course I brought up his heart rate, and asked out right if it was something serious and they were just keeping calm around me, but outside of my room really debating on what to do.... Julie assured me it wasn't serious. PHEW.

I also asked her if she really didn't want to give me the epidural and Scott asking if she wanted her head ripped off, and she HOWLED with laughter and said yes. And confirmed that's why they made me wait until 8 cm to get the epidural.

I felt bad that I was tired from last night, something was up with me gastrointestinally, and I guess that also gave Ashton gas.... so no one really got good sleep last night. Ahhh well, it happens, just need to catch up when I can.

Let's see, what else... oh yeah, did the whole check to make sure everything was healing like it should.... and everything is right as rain! She was also shocked to hear that my bleeding though light, just finished up 3 days ago. BUT I reminded her of the fibroid that they found during my 20 week u/s and she agreed, that's probably why it lasted a bit longer.... but other than holding Ashton "wouldn't know I had a baby."

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine met us at Mom's Night Out and she was discussing her soon to be open business of cloth diapers that she makes by hand. I've always been interested in cloth diapering, but I'm one of those people with a million questions and wanted some first hand experience on doing them, outside of a diapering service. Laura was definitely it! We discussed her diapers, and she had brought 2 for another gal who didn't come and let me have them to try and give my feedback on. Within the week I was sold.... I was 100% on board with doing them, and even Scott... which I was a little surprised, but happy he was good to go with it.

I know that some people are going to say "Oh good lord...." but well, if potty training for boys holds true Ashton will be in some sort of diaper/training pant until almost the age of 4 and spending anywhere from $60 or more a month on diapers and wipes.... it was worth it to me since I'm the one that's in charge of that stuff. Not to mention that I can resell any and all of my diapers / wipes when I'm done.... don't believe me, do a search in eBay.

Soooo today..... I started 24/7 cloth diapering as my "stash" of diapers came in, and it's going so far so good!! I love these AIO's [All-in-Ones] and having to only do laundry every 2 days, and they are SUPER easy clean, which means you treat it JUST like a disposable but wash it, no gross stuff involved.... though I'm finding that people are as passionate about their choice of which cloth diapers to use just like what type if disposables..... including IRL..... just had a comment made to me yesterday, but brushed it off.... what works for one obviously doesn't work for all... and so far, after about 2 1/2 weeks of using cloth diapers part time .. I love the snaps and the AIO's.... I don't like the pocket type of cloth diapers and I haven't tried prefolds, not really wanting to either....... but either way, Ashton is super cute in his CD's, and it's helping Reese and Riley with their colors!

I just wanted to eat Ashton up today..... I was "eating" his cheeks and neck and he did that gurgly laugh and smile. I LOVED IT! Reese REALLY gets him going... she starts laughing at him and he laughs back. She's so enamored with him... I love it! He's definitely a cutie petutie! And the coos have started here and there the last day or so as well…. Oh, he's already stolen my heart 10 fold!

This photo was taken about a week later… so hard to catch him while smiling with a camera in my hand!
