Ashton's First Year

WOO HOO!

(2 weeks 5 days)

I have a HUGE sense of accomplishment today!

Scott was in Cincinnati ALL day with a business meeting... he got home around 9:30PM after leaving at 7:00AM.

During this time it was just me and the 3 amigos.

I got up with Ashton, changed and fed him and put him in the swing. Then I fixed oatmeal for R&R, the 2 of them had 3 packs, they wanted more but I didn't want them to be all stopped up! Then they went and played up in the attic, the play room, for a bit.

Ashton woke up and wanted to nurse again, no worries, cluster feedings are the name of the game right now...... I was whole heartily trying to get a dang shower in, but I remembered I had gotten Grandparents day cards and needed to print out a slew of photos to stick in each to mail off later today and got my crock pot going for dinner that evening.

Somehow I finally got myself a bowl of oatmeal and took a shower. We all piled into the van, Ashton was semi awake since I had to rouse him from the swing, but he went back to sleep.

I swung by the bank to make a deposit and the post office to drop off the letters... then off to Wal-Mart to pick up some miscellaneous items.

THAT was a trip...... I really wish I would have taken a photo of how I had to set it up.

Wal-Mart's "new" shopping carts don't allow for infant seats at the top portion, I can't even put Reese in the seat are anymore because her legs are so long she gets these deep grooves that are painful just from her legs hanging down.... so my mom got them a $2 piece of carpet when she was here that I keep in the back of the van for this exact purpose.... BOTH girls sit in the basket area and I put Ashton's infant seat as securely as I can in the top and hold on because he can't latch to the back, but I usually end up carrying him around... I'm sure it freaked out passing cars when the EMPTY infant seat fell off in the road when I whipped the cart around after unloading the girls... don't worry, I was holding ashton at the time, but it did freak me out a bit, think I'll just sling him from now on, even if he IS sleeping.

The girls did great though! Just a few "she's touching me!" or Riley not wanting to sit on her butt because "I want to see the people!"

I did score some good deals on extra play clothes for Reese to take with her to preschool for "accidents"... thank god for Wal-mart garanimals and only being $3.50 still.... I see that they are starting to up their prices to $4.50 a piece! Ahhh well, I bought 5T for Reese for fall and a shirt for this little last bit of summer and if she grows out of them, Riley can use them, I know I have plenty of jeans and shorts to throw a pair of each in her bag for her first day on Monday.

And I had a lovely conversation with a woman who had twin boys who were just shy of 3 months and she asked how old Ashton was and I said "just shy of 3 weeks!"

It was about 1 hour from start to finish if picking up a few things and we headed to grab some lunch because Reese and Riley were squawking like starving baby birds that haven't eaten in 3 days..... poor Ashton screamed his head off from the time I put him back in his infant seat until we got home 15 minutes later because it was lunch time for him too! Yes, he's already on his eating schedule.

I got everyone unpacked, set up and fed comfortably. We all played for another 45 minutes or so until it was nap time for everyone. I even took a 2 hour nap! I was exhausted from the lack of sleep the night before.... again, cluster feedings!

I was shocked that Reese slept until 3:30 and Riley until 4:45!! I put both of them down at 1:15! When Riley woke up Ashton was in his swing sleeping and I asked the girls to play nicely upstairs until dinner was ready.... they complied for the most part. They get eachother so rawled up that I have to tell them to keep it down as best as I can without waking up Ashton before dinner.

Finally dinner was ready, we all sat down and ate, gobbled more like it! Everyone was famished! My chicken and dumplings were a hit.

After dinner and getting everything cleaned up it was just about 6:15 and tonight was bath night! And we usually start baths at 7, but that's about the time Ashton wakes up and I give him his before he gets fed.... so I went ahead and gave the girls theres, and treated them to a nice big bubble bath! They had a blast playing in the bubbles. I let them mess around for about 20 minutes before I gave them their offical scrub down and got them out, dressed in their PJs and ready to rock and roll by 7:15, Ashton was starting to rouse, and let him hang out in his swing a bit while the girls got their blankets and bedtime friends together.

They were both in bed before Ashton was fed up with being in the swing, did prayers with the girls and kissed both good night.... just in time for Ashton to be REALLY done with being in the swing and gave him his bath, nursed him and put him down for the night around 8:30. He got up a couple of times to snack, but he was out by 8:45......

Scott got home around 9:15.

I felt pretty good that even by myself I can handle our normal routines, even if they are thrown off by a 1/2 an hour or a little more.

Enjoy!

First Bath!

(13 days)

WOO HOO! Finally Ashton's stump fell off late tonight, actually, right before he needed to be cleaned, and he could have his FIRST real bath!!! Of course he wasn't 100% thrilled about being exposed and cried his head off...

BUT, as SOON as he was covered in his duck from my mom he calmed down almost INSTANTLY... and this thing killed two birds with one stone, no getting peed on! Yes, he loves to pee on mommy..... daddy? Not so much.

2 Week Postpartom Check-Up

(12 days)

I had my 2 week pp check up at 3:45, yes I had to drive back to WRH less than 4 hours later, coming back in another 4 for my "official" 6 week check up. I asked to get weighed for the fun of it to see how much weight I had lost 12 days PP.................. 28 lb down! I'm actually already down to my PP weight when coming to my midwife practice, just another 16 lb to where I was when I started seeing my RE!! I can already wear my pre pregnancy pants, and not even the "fat pants"..... Sue made a joke when I was talking to her about my weight and how close I was to my original weight and she pushed up her breasts and said "5..... and 10." SO TRUE!!!

And then we got to all the "B's".... Blues, Bottom (I never had ANY pain "down there" even with my 1st degree retear of about 1 - 2 stitches in the same spot as the last 2 births), Blood pressure, Bleeding (almost nonexistent), and a couple of other ones.... but everything was perfect!!! Sue and I chatted for a good 30 minutes about everything, including my birth since she wasn't able to be there... obviously. Sue also LOVED Ashton's birth announcement and their thank you goody basket. She kept thanking me, and I told her not to, because I can't thank she and her practice enough!

I am feeling great, thank GOD for help this time..... such a 180 this time around!

I also took thank you basket by the L&D ward this morning after Ashton's appointment, along with a boppy insert. The nurses wanted to put a boppy in each room for recovering mothers and make their own boppy covers to be able to be wiped down and wanted to donate one to them. It was great to see "my ladies" and for them to see Ashton 2 weeks after birth. I LOVE MY HOSPITAL! The nursing staff oohed and ahhed over Ashton which of course I felt like on proud mamma.... and it was cute as I was walking OUT of the hospital every person over the age of 50 stopped me to see Ashton and compliment me on him.

So I come back in 4 weeks!
