Ashton's First Year

Keeping on Slurpin' Down!

(6 months 1 week 2 days)

After 4 days of rice cereal with no adverse effects Ashton tried fresh banana today! TWICE! He's doing really well with solids, and probably can bump up the 1 - 2 servings to 2 - 3 servings at lunch. Just play it by ear.

Waiting to 6 months is way cooler not only for Ashton's benefit healthwise, but because he can jump right into a TON more foods because he's able to digest more than just cereals and a few fruits.

And thinking we'll try some YoBaby Yogurt here soon too!

First "solid" food

This morning Ashton had his first real taste/meal of "solid food." Rice Cereal!

HE LOVED IT! As to be expected. We'll continue with the 1 - 2 teaspoons 1 meal a day for the next 4 days. Then we'll try something else... thinking maybe avocado! I can sneak some myself.... well before the mixing of milk of course!

I also gave Ashton the bit of water they are supposed to drink afterwards to help their kidneys dilute the waste and he drank it like it was nothing as well.... which wasn't a huge shock since he manages to drink a bit of his bath water gnashing on his washcloths.

Amazing to think that a whole new world has no opened up for him, and the girls think he's hysterical eating too!

6 Month Check-Up

(6 months 4 days)

Ashton had his 6 month check up today. I took Reese to preschool, dropped off Riley and headed over to Dr. K's after a brief lay over at "Ma's."

Just as soon as we got to Dr. K's we were called back. As I was taking Ashton out of the car seat the nurse kept commenting on how well he held his head up. I chuckled a little bit as I sat him up on the table and her jaw fell open. I guess sitting up so well at this age is not as common as I thought, but this kid wishes he could run after his crazy sisters and even crazier dog!

I had to get Ashton all nekkid, of course he had downloaded in his diaper prior, but I cleaned him up and she took his temperature. He was NOT happy about that, but thankfully no temperature! I think he was at 98.4…

Then the other stats, HOLY COW, here we go:

Weight: 19 lb 2 oz
Height: 28 inches
Head Circ: 17 1/2 inches (She had it at 17, but I re measured at home, he's at 17 1/2)

VERY BIG BOY, and Dr. K was amazed he was as big as he was just on breast milk… he told me to go ahead and start solids, we both agreed it was time, but due to the amoxicillin for 10 days it was better not to start solids until after the amoxicillin dosages due to the risk of having a major allergy and not knowing which had caused it.

Everything else looked great so then Dr. K left and both nurses came in to give Ashton all 4 of his shots, 2 at a time on each leg. Ashton cried a bit, but not as much as before, and he didn't tense up like before so no knots! YAY!

I got him dressed and made his 9 month appointment along with Riley's 3 year check up. Take care of 2 kids at one time! And best yet…. No shots for either. But I'm sure that Riley will walk out of there with a couple of stickers!

OMG.... all day today I got Ashton to say "Dah dah" OVER and OVER again. And if you whisper it, he'll whisper it back. SO CUTE!

Of course Scott is SO happy.... I'm bummed, I'm 1 for 3 with "Ma Ma"

Oh my, if he's a talker like Riley.....
